Blowers, Trimmers, and Edgers
Tips
Blowers, trimmers, and edgers are vital tools to landscaping jobs. These three tools can make any job much easier. Here are some tips on how to properly use your blowers, trimmers, and edgers:
Blowers
Blowers are ideal for moving small objects into a pile for easier cleanup. Blowers also have vacuum attachments for picking up dry material such as small twigs, grass, leaves, and bits of paper. In order to pick up these small materials, you must attach a vacuum attachment to the blower. The vacuum attachment can be placed either directly below the blower or on the side of the blower. The vacuum will neatly store all those dried up materials into a bag to make for dispersing of them extremely easy. Gutter kits are also great attachments for blowers. Gutter kits allow you to collect buildup of leaves and other materials in your gutters. Gutter kits can reach a maximum height of 10 feet, but will not work with every model so be sure to check your specific model’s compatibility first.
Trimmers
Trimmers are perfect for areas that can’t be reached by a regular lawn mower. Trimmers are either electric or gasoline powered. The electric models do not cut a stem thicker than 3/8”. The gasoline powered trimmers have a maximum diameter of 7/16”. If the blades on your trimmer are not cutting as cleanly as you like, there may be a sap build-up between the blades. All you need to do is spray a light coating of machine oil on the blade strap to loosen the sap.
Trimmer lines have a tendency of breaking. This happens because of line crowding, and because the head is being held too close to the objects. Surfaces such as brick, rocks, cement, or fencing can be a major cause for breaking. You need to keep the line at full extension to reduce any potential problems.
Edgers
Edgers are a lawn care tool that cleans the space between the lawn and a walkway or sidewalk. The use of an edger can create a much neater appearance than an ordinary lawn mower can provide. Edgers may be electric gasoline powered. Electric edgers will cut up to 1” whereas a gasoline powered edger can cut up to 2”.
